I care about women’s safety.
When women have economic stability, with reliable ways to earn and save money, they are safer.
The efforts providing these ways to earn and save money often include collective action, whether in the form of local networks, state policy, or national infrastructure.
These are challenging times, and we can all benefit from more examples of Story Changers: the people and organizations behind the effort. I’d like to play a small part in sharing those.
From a consulting perspective, there is also a lot to be learned and shared.
Field research that includes ethnography and participatory-research methods holds significant value when creating stories that drive support for efforts and organizations. I want to help nonprofits harness more of its power as they align their strategic, marketing, and fundraising work.
To that end, each of the areas I visit will receive pro-bono consulting insights and/or marketing assets as part of this work. I, in turn, hope to lift up the work being done to support women’s economic independence and share some of the best practices, cautionary tales, and operational insights offered to support other organizations.

Women’s Work will use applied, multi-site qualitative research, including ethnographic fieldwork, network and systems analysis, and policy-oriented research.
Rather than single-site case studies, Women’s Work will employ comparative, example-based ethnography to identify patterns that recur across geography, sector, and scale.
I will reside in West Hartford, CT between projects, but live temporarily when on project.

My goal is to help shine a light on the people and organizations trying to create a safer future for women and to drive important conversations that lead to large-scale social change.
From this, we can all learn a lot about what people are attempting to do, why, what’s working and what’s not.
Social-impact storytelling also helps communities better understand the Social Return on Investment (SROI) when good work to support people results in fewer problems for communities to manage. Money saved by investing in preventative work can then be redirected to education, health, safety, and infrastructure.

I will share some of the day-to-day experiences when I’m in a location for a longer period of time. I will also update the StoryB website with Field Notes as I create a portfolio of this project and prepare assets for upcoming community events.

The initial stages of the project to enable the purchasing of supplies and to fund travel and honorariums are privately funded.
In mid-2026, I will seek a Fiscal Sponsor to allow me to raise funds to prepare the project to be shared publicly.
I will seek support for the following:
Funds to hire 1-2 early career professionals to help prepare documentary film shorts, and ideally, a full-length film;
Funds to prepare a public art exhibit and launch event with speaker panels and workshops;
Funds to cover data gathering, management, and analysis.
I anticipate the total fundraising amount to be approximately $100,000.
If you are interested in being a Fiscal Sponsor for this project, please contact me here.
